#1 STIMULATING NEW INNOVATIONS: WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE GOVERNMENT?

09:30

Today, the Government has a key role in innovation and in particular for sustainability issues such as the development of green technologies. It also stimulates innovation via control of foreign subsidies and state aid. On 25 April, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill was introduced into Parliament. Among other things, the legislation will provide statutory powers to the Digital Markets Unit (DMU), and will significantly strengthen regulatory oversight of the digital sector. What are the consequences of such an active role of the Government for innovation and antitrust?
